“Participating in the Youth Apprenticeship program has completely changed the way I view my future. At first, my plan was simple: attend college full-time for four years and figure things out afterward. But through this apprenticeship, I’ve gained hands-on experience that’s shown me the value of working and learning at the same time. Now, I believe the best path forward for me is to continue working while attending college. I’m confident that I can manage both, and I know the city would be supportive of this decision.

Through the apprenticeship, I’ve taken on real responsibilities that go beyond just observing. My main task is to develop a solid understanding of the field, especially in mechanical work. I know I’ve done my job when a truck is repaired, back in service, and safe for the driver to operate without concern. This kind of accountability has taught me what it really means to contribute to a team.

Two man together

I’ve also learned that while more preventive maintenance could improve operations, it requires more manpower something we’re currently short on. That insight has helped me appreciate the importance of efficiency, time management, and teamwork in any workplace.

Overall, Youth Apprenticeship has not only given me technical skills but also helped me build a clearer, more practical vision for my future. It’s made me more confident in my abilities, more aware of the realities of the workforce, and more determined to take a balanced, strategic approach to my education and career.”
