McFarland virtual high school helps Dane County enrollment numbers increase

MCFARLAND, Wis. — Data from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction released data showing that overall state enrollment in public schools has declined for yet another year, but one district in Dane County has helped keep that area’s numbers growing.
The McFarland school district’s Wisconsin Virtual Academies high school brought in about half of total enrollment for the district. Showing an interesting trend toward virtual schooling.
“It’s really about choice, and it is about families having an opportunity to school in a different way” said Wisconsin Virtual Academies Executive Director Sara Cutler.
She also said that with more brick-and-mortar schools having less funding than needed, non-traditional schooling is seeing a rise.
