English Language Learners (ELL)

A Home Language Survey (HLS) must be on file for every student enrolled at WVA schools. Our schools use the home language survey responses and enrollment questions about languages spoken to begin the identification process of English language learners. Identified English Language Learners are provided English Language support and instruction. The student will work with an ELL teacher who serves as an advocate while helping the student gain proficiency in English. The teacher providing the English Language support and instruction will partner with the student, the Learning Coach, and the student’s other teachers.

If your student may need ELL services, please get in touch with our ELL Coordinator, Miriam Mueller-Owens.
